Sending email campaigns might be quite easy but you have to be mindful of these points before sending your campaign. BEFORE SENDING EMAILS YOU SHOULD NOTE THIS: 1. Know why you are sending the campaign: We don't just wake up and suddenly decide, you gonna send a campaign today, before sending campaigns you got to know why you want to send the campaign. Stop changing your sender's name, because email users before opening an email check who is sending the email first before considering reading the subject line, if you keep on changing your sender's name, it can be a turn-off. Same with the logo, let them get used to a particular logo of your brand. 3. Be short and specific: Stop writing long body content it might get the reader bored, and might quit before the CTA. You can even tell stories that will catch the reader's attention, talk about how your brand has helped people, and you can even drop customers' reviews just to keep that vibe flowing. Learn to be short, always have a specific CTA stop beating around the bush. Make it clear what you want them to do for you, that will benefit them too. It is advisable to have one CTA in your body content, if you have more than one you can use them in different campaigns. 4. Write a good and catchy subject line: A good subject line can serve as bait to lure subscribers to open your email. While writing or sending emails your subject line shouldn't have more than 40-70 characters, iPhone shows 40-50 characters as a subject line and Gmail shows 65-70 characters, so while sending emails you should be mindful of how many characters you are using. While writing emails your subject lines should always have a clear value, let your subscribers know the body content of your email by just reading the subject line, you can use emojis to show excitement or any expression, instead of using symbols. For example: • See what I got for you 🤭 Instead of • See what I got for you!!!!!! Using symbols for expression can trigger spam. Subject lines shouldn't be capitalized throughout, it's advisable you use capital letters starting every word, and don't go and write your subject line in small characters doesn't make sense. For example: • See what I got for you ✔ • See What I Got For You ✔ [Advisable] Don't use this: • SEE WHAT I GOT FOR YOU ✖ • see what I got for you ✖ "SEE WHAT I GOT FOR YOU" can trigger spam be mindful of your email contents, every email marketer hates a spam folder, it sucks! the worst place your email should be. 5. Choosing the right time to send your campaigns: That is why it's advisable to know your customers, the best way to do that is by A/B testing. Statistics show that Tuesdays and Thursdays are hot days to send marketing emails. Tuesday and Wednesday 8-10 were the worst time to send newsletters with less than 5 percent open rate, then Thursday morning between 8 and 9 has the best email open rate over 25 percent. It might not work for you but you should A/B test to know what works for you. It's never advisable to buy an email list because, the list you are buying might have inactive email addresses, and can affect your deliverability. I see buying an email list as a spam trap. It's important to get visitors to your website before you can build your email list because it's only your visitors that can build your email list for you. Try as much as possible to get visitors flowing into your website. The best way to build traffic or get visitors is to use ads, ads are quite expensive but, ads allow you to target your perfect audience on the platform you are comfortable with. Most e-commerce uses Facebook ads because they are cost-effective and can grow business. You can also create engaging content to drive traffic to your website. Five Ways To Build Your Email List: There are five proven and effective ways to build your email list easily. 1. Create Opt in the form: Creating opt-in forms is the most common and important way to build your list. An opt-in form must contain an email field where the visitor can input his email address, and most of the time it might contain, first name, last name, and date of birth, but you can go with just email address and the first name, it's alright, except you want his/her last name and date of birth. 2. Sending emails might be quite boring and hard if you don't know how to go about it. To send a good and highly converting email, it should have these features:
1. Your emails should spark curiosity with the subject lines: Stop sending emails that won't make the recipient eager to open the email. Way to write subject lines that can spark curiosity. A. Present scarcity: It has been a working principle for marketers, the scarcity principle has long been an effective marketing strategy to encourage action. Use action words, great email subject lines are just like a call-to-action. And the best way to encourage clicks is by telling readers exactly what you want them to do. E.g: • Get this facial care kit and get a free facial mask. • Book your space now! This type of subject line has a specific CTA, so the customer knows what to do already. 2. Write a good preview text: Make sure your preview text aligns with your subject line, don't go out of your subject line. Your preview text should just be a little explanation on your subject line. Let the two align, so it can convince your recipients to open. 3. Writing an engaging body content: Stop writing boring content, it sucks! Writing content that always gives or allows your recipients to perform a task, creates an engaging body, and lets your body content have a strong CTA. Don't forget to make sure that your subject line, preview text, and body content align. Please don't go out of your subject line. You can make your body engaging by telling stories, adding visuals, ask them to complete your CTAs. 4. Make use of your P.S section: P.S. from the Latin “postscriptum” or “written after, was used in the days when we sent handwritten letters and needed to add a bit of information that had been forgotten in the letter. You can use your P.S section to: • Create urgency. • Provide CTA. • Add extra information or thought • Make connections. • Promote bonus or share surplus value. 5. A good email should always have an unsubscribe link. Make it easy for your recipients to unsubscribe from your list. It's part of the CAN-SPAM ACT. Don't forget to drop your comments and share.
Email deliverability measures whether your emails enter your recipient's inbox or enter spam. Checking your email deliverability matters because when your emails aren't entering the recipient's inbox directly, your open and click rate will be negatively affected, once your open and click rate is negatively affected, you can't reach your audience to get them to do what you want. Here are a few common ways to improve your deliverability: 1. Clean your email list regularly: Cleaning your email list is one of the best ways to improve your deliverability in the sense that, you remove recipients that don't open your emails. Keep your eyes on inactive subscribers. I check mine every day and check out for who's not opening my email, then, after two weeks if the recipient isn't opening I remove the person from my list. Yeah, you may be thinking but this person subscribed personally to join my list, why isn't he opening, that's where graymail comes in; GRAY MAIL ARE EMAILS YOU TECHNICALLY OPT-IN BUT DON'T WANT. It happens a lot, yeah!. Also if you do buy an email list, I advise you to stop it, they didn't opt-in to hear from you, that's why I don't recommend scraping. While scraping emails, you don't know which email recipient is active, or inactive. Sending to an inactive email address affects your deliverability. 2. Use double opt-in rather than single: Always ask them "do you want to join my list". Yeah! you can do that by creating a tick button for confirmations or sending a confirmation email, just like what Klaviyo and Revue do when somebody wants to join or subscribe to my list. Klaviyo and Revue send a confirmation to them, asking them if they want to join the list. Klaviyo makes sure you have a healthy list. 3. Be consistent with your sender name: Go for what they know you for, stop changing your sender's name. 4. Make it easy to unsubscribe: Yeah, it is necessary, Don't forget to include your unsubscribe button in your email and make it easy for them, it also helps to clean your email list, which means they don't want to hear from you and it's fine, no need to panic. You don't need to have a large list, focus on the quality of your subscribers. 5. Avoid spam traps: When sending emails to avoid using spammy words; • Words that create unnecessary urgency and pressure. • Words that make exaggerated claims and promises • Words that look shady, spammy, and show unethical behavior. • Words that are jargon. It is better to follow simple rules and enjoy the email marketing world. The CAN-SPAM Act governs commercial email, aka any email sent by a business trying to promote or sell a product or service. The rules of CAN-SPAM: • Don’t use false or misleading information. • Don’t use a deceptive subject line. • Tell subscribers where you’re located. • Give subscribers a simple way to opt-out of your emails. • Honor all opt-outs quickly. Penalties for not following the law can add up to $16,000 per email, so it’s important to follow the rules. 6. Create engaging content: Create contents that will always engage to avoid your recipients from unsubscribing, but don't have too many CTAs in your email, so as not to confuse your recipient. Sending rights emails is not really a big task, quite simple but we do it wrongly, that's why your open rate and click rate are very low.
Here are three steps to send the right email: • The right person. • At the right time. • Send the right emails. • Sending to the right person matters a lot, because we don't just send out emails to anybody, that's why email scrapping and buying an email list is not recommended. Sending emails to people who didn't opt-in can reduce your deliverability. Sending emails to the right persons is crucial, that's where segmentation comes in. Segmentation plays an important role in sending the right emails because It separates the people who want to join your email list and people who don't want to. For you to get the best of open and click rates, send emails to people who opt-in only and want to hear from you. Learn to segment your list! • Sending at the right time: About 121 emails enter people's inboxes per day, so how can yours stand out irrespective of the busy schedule of the user. It's quite simple. You should understand the timing. We have two major people we send emails to (B2B and B2C). Sending to these people and understanding their schedules would increase your open and click rate. For a B2B: Days of the week: Tuesday - Thursday Best time: 11 am - 2 pm In case you own an e-commerce store and you want them to purchase a product or service from you, you should send them only when you know their TARGET BUDGETS, unlike B2C which you send them at the end of the money. Understand their budget reviews, and when they would like to make expenses. Time of the month: Target budget reviews. For a B2C: Days of the week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday (Variable). Best time: End of the day; 7 pm - 9 pm Time of the month: End of the month (when they get their payment). Working with this trust me you're open and the click rate is gonna boom. • Lastly sending the right email covers a lot, it doesn't require much but it's based on mainly these three things: • Get straight to the point: When sending emails stop going around, be direct, and tell them straight up what you want from them, so they can grab your point. • Align subject line and content: Stop going out of your subject line, let your subject and your content speak the same thing, it's very necessary. • Avoid too many CTAs: Your CTA should not be more than two or three. Many CTAs make the user or receiver tired of the email. After sending a welcome email, and appreciating them for joining your list, that's not all, we just completed the first step, but there are still steps to take in other to convert and retain your customers.
